Holco Foods has been in existence since 1955. Under different ownership and in various locations Holco has continued to trade in South Australia since it was purchased by Mike Rankin in 1995 by Meatpak. Mike Rankin started his career in the Meat Industry after buying his first butcher store in the Adelaide suburb of Dulwich as a 19 year old. Mike then acquired the Turner’s butcher shops with the renamed business, Springfield Butchers, which included 11 butcher shops in Adelaide and two in Darwin.
Since acquiring the business in 1995, Holco has grown to become the largest meat food service business in South Australia and the Northern Territory. With a cold store facility in Adelaide that can hold over 500 pallets of chilled meat and a further 2500 pallets of frozen meat product. This storage capacity and our ability to purchase stock in advance has helped Holco go from strength to strength by being able to deliver a constant product year round. The retail business makes up 15% of the total Holco business, while its food service and wholesale division is responsible for the rest.
In 2011, Holco opened operations in the Brisbane suburb of Morning Side. Our Brisbane business has continued to grow with a staff of nearly 40, it accounts for 30% of the food service business nationally. In 2013, Holco went into partnership with Thomas Foods International; another South Australian family owned business and as a part of this deal, acquired Country Fresh Nation Wide in the northern New South Wales region of Coffs Harbour. Holco now employs approximately 400 people and runs 35 delivery vehicles across 4 states.
